ABOUT THE CHALET
The story of a place we fell in love with
We are an active family of four who love the mountains. In winter, we enjoy skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing; in summer, we spend our time hiking and cycling. Martin comes from Karlovy Vary and has been visiting his family’s cottage in Boží Dar since childhood. Back then, Boží Dar was still a somewhat forgotten corner of the Ore Mountains.
We now live in Prague, but our chalet in Boží Dar is our second home — a place we love returning to whenever we need to escape the bustle of the city, work and school commitments.
When the opportunity arose to buy an old house right on the town square, we didn’t hesitate for long, despite its dilapidated condition. As an architect and a builder, we saw its hidden potential and were excited by the challenge of renovating it. Little by little, we brought the house back to life.
As we love spending time with friends and their families in shared holiday cottages, we designed Ve Stopě chalet as a place where a group of friends or several families could come together and enjoy a holiday under one roof. A spacious shared lounge with a kitchen was therefore a must.
For us, Ve Stopě chalet is much more than a place to stay. We have devoted countless hours of work, evening discussions and early weekend mornings to it. It is a labour of love and a family project from start to finish. We carried out the renovation ourselves, on a limited budget but with love and respect for the house’s original character. We removed many poorly executed alterations from previous decades, working our way back to the original structure. Our aim was to restore the house’s mountain charm, preserve something of its former owners’ story and, at the same time, adapt it to the comfort and needs of today’s guests.
